The Polygon Group, a global provider and Europe’s leader in property damage restoration services and temporary climate management solutions, has announced its commitment to the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) to set near-term group-wide emission reduction targets in line with climate science.
The United Nations has issued a dire warning regarding the latest climate science from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), describing it as a "code red for humanity." Without immediate and significant reductions in emissions from all nations, the UN states that limiting global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius will be unattainable.

Around 90% of an insurance company’s climate footprint lies within their supply chain, effectively out of their control. Polygon Group is committed to working in partnership with all its customers, improving processes and taking action to make real reductions in the shared footprint. The company is making improvements in a number of areas simultaneously – from reducing the number of journeys to site and planning shorter journeys, to expanding what can be restored, to reducing the power consumption of equipment used to dry property, to using more environmentally responsible materials and improving the management of waste.
Polygon Group took a significant step by conducting a detailed assessment of its 2021 global environmental footprint (Scope 1, 2, and 3) with the support of a leader in carbon accounting.
Polygon’s company philosophy has long been centered around restoration as the primary approach to property damage, rather than replacement and reconstruction. The company is continuously seeking to improve its methods and expand what can be restored. It has also introduced a number of Internet of Things (IoT) tools to manage environments as well as developing technologies and services to monitor, prevent and limit damage.
Operating sustainably is by no means a new goal for Polygon Group: many of the group’s businesses have a long track record of best-in-class performance in the field. However, the company recognizes the urgent need to accelerate its actions if the IPCC predictions are to be avoided.
