Developed for Hong Kong's demanding urban environment
The Volvo BZL Electric double-decker for Hong Kong is the first with a 6×2 tri-axle configuration – tailor made to meet the city’s need for high passenger capacity and intensive urban operations.
The Volvo BZL Electric platform combines Volvo's proven chassis expertise with double-deck bodywork developed in partnership with MCV. The result is a fully electric solution engineered to deliver reliability, efficiency, and passenger comfort in one of the world's most demanding public transport environments.
Designed for clean, quiet, and safe urban mobility
Key features of the Volvo BZL DD Electric – MCV include zero tailpipe emissions and clean, quiet operation enabled by its fully electric driveline, helping to improve air quality and reduce noise levels across the city.
This bus also incorporates Volvo's latest active safety systems, emergency braking system, and a comprehensive electrical safety system designed to protect passengers, drivers, and other road users.
A heavy-duty climate control system is engineered to maintain passenger comfort in Hong Kong’s tropical conditions while using energy efficiently.
Flexible charging solutions
The Volvo BZL Electric supports both overnight depot charging and fast charging of up to 250 kW, giving operators greater charging flexibility and vehicle uptime.
"Hong Kong places high demands on reliability, safety, and passenger comfort. The Volvo BZL platform is designed to meet those expectations, backed by our global e-mobility experience and long-standing commitment to the market," said Dan Pettersson, Senior Vice President, Volvo Buses Business Unit Chassis.
